Welcome to Baymeadows Vision Center, your trusted eye care provider in sunny Jacksonville, Florida.
Led by Dr. Monica Brown, our team is dedicated to providing exceptional eye care with a personal touch. We specialize in eye exams, treatment for eye diseases such as keratoconus and dry eye syndrome, and vision therapy. In our Jacksonville optical, you’ll find a wide selection of designer eyewear for both adults and children. We also offer specialty contact lenses for patients with a variety of conditions that prevent them from wearing traditional contact lenses.

Dr. Monica Brown

Originally from Winterset, Iowa, Dr. Monica Brown completed her undergraduate work at the University of Iowa where she received a B.A. in Biology (with honors) as well as a master’s degree in Orthoptics (Certified Orthoptist, C.O. – eye coordination specialist). She then received a B.S. in Vision Science and completed her Doctor of Optometry degree (also with honors) at Nova Southeastern University’s College of Optometry in South Florida.
Dr. Brown has participated in new ocular technology research and has also done numerous humanitarian missions to underserved countries including Peru and Ecuador (she speaks fluent Spanish) where she provided thousands of eye exams and specialized care for eye diseases and glaucoma.

With over 14 years of experience, Dr. Brown has the clinical training to provide you with the highest level of eye care. This includes cataract diagnosis, glaucoma treatment, and emergency eye care such as eye infections, scratched eyes, or removal of a foreign body. She is passionate about contact lenses and plans to continue to provide specialty lenses such as scleral contact lenses. She also provides orthoptic care to children and adults who have double vision or binocular vision issues.
Dr. Alissa Alterman

Born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida, Dr. Alissa Alterman completed her undergraduate work at Florida State University. She then earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Vision Science and a Doctor of Optometry degree at Nova Southeastern University’s College of Optometry in 2012.
In addition to her expansive knowledge in eye care and contact lenses, Dr. Alterman is passionate about nutrition, wellness, and the prevention of ocular disease. She is a Certified Personalized Nutrition Practitioner (CPNP) and has completed training in integrative and functional nutrition. This specialization makes her excel in dry eye care and the prevention of many common eye diseases.

Dr. Alterman enjoys skiing and hiking in national parks. On the weekends, she likes to spend time with her husband and nearby family. Her happy place is poolside with her French Bulldog, Elmer.
